A three way dialogue, my FB friend THABO, his friend Dumisani and I
With thanks to Thabo and Dumisani
THABO:The Caster saga just proves that most white people don't want to REPENT
LUCILLE:yeah Thabo, the comments do not only come from whites eh, be careful that you are not the cause of a stir up for no reason. I am fully aware of classism that exists in SA among blacks South Africans from differing heritage.
DUMISANI:Lucille with due respect, absolutely nothing is wrong with classism as it is enshrined in the constitution i.e freedom of association. however racism is demeaning and it undermines others , the sooner the issue of superiority coplex from whites is addressed, then we will be a true rainbow nation. pigmentation has got nothing to do with capability and ability.
DUMISANI:Clearly Carmen you are not catching my drift, my commentry was within a context as per Lucille We i.t.o classism v/s racism. i concur to your sentiments that as subjective my commentary it may be, there are harsh realities facing this nation that we have to acknoedge as realities without taking any exceptions whether they offend us or not, but no pun intended jst my analysis if not to say opinion!
LUCILLE:When one group lets say Zulu (because they can handle it) make demeaning remarks about Pedi - that is what I am remarking about in terms of classism. Dumisani direct me to the points in the constitution that you are referring to.
DUMISANI:Lucille, refer to the coutry`s bill of rights which is the constitution , pay special attention to section 18, 30 and 31.
LUCILLE:Dumisani, how does that indicate that insulting another groups/cultures ways is enshrined in the constitution?????
DUMISANI:Lucille maybe I should just withdraw for the sake of moving right along. Clearly u did not go through the constitution as requested, if you did then you don't understand what classism is. No one was offcourse was talking abt looking down on others or swearing
But association by belief be it race, social standing, religion or common interest
is embraced by the constitution and that is classicism same as when penis observe a custom which is contrary to zulus
is okay long as one does not look down on others. That's diversity right there. Catch my drift, have it easy its sunday today had a good golfing morning shooting @ 79
DUMISANI:Sorry Pedis not the latter
LUCILLE:Freudian slip ;)
LUCILLE:I did look at the sections of the Bill you referred me to. There is nothing in there about classism
DUMISANI:Classism is prejudice and/or discrimination on the basis of socioeconomic class. It includes individual attitudes and behaviors, systems of policies and practices that are set up to benefit the upper classes at the expense of the lower classes. Classism is grounded in a Marxian belief system that pits individuals with differing socioeconomic statuses, and other class related divisions, against each other. This system leads to antagonisms and prejudices between members of various classes. [Lucille does not see how that prejudice can be inshrined in the SA constitution]
